Open Source audio editing projects

As I said to Jono over christmas, I was thinking of recording a small jingle for the show (may never happen etc...). I'd like to do this with Linux as an experiment.

What was the one mentioned in S2E8? The Wire Project? Care to offer a link? (Google isn't helping).

Anyone here with practical experience of any of the above? Recommendations, do's and don'ts requested.

For the record, I haven't tried Wired, or any other audio manipulation software, under Linux. Wired got a mention in LXF, and looked pretty impressive, so I mentioned it on the forum when someone asked about LUGRadio's recording software details.

I have played a bit with Hydrogen which is a cool drum machine for Linux......

I've used ardour a few times just to play about (recorded myself drumming a djembe then added some effects). It looks really good, and is being worked on again I think which is even better. I'd say it's getting to be a serious contender in terms of top end multitrack recording /mixing, but isn't the easiest program to learn if you just want to do something simple. Probably worth learning though if you're planning on doing more complex projects later.
