UnderDesktop jaws(it's big and dumb)
IBM ThinkPad: carver(its weedy but smart)
Server at home: oddjob (initially cos it did everything from routing to web hosting)

I figure there's a bond film out every so often, so I doubt I'll run out of names.

Same as a company I used to work for. Bond Girls for desktops, villains and henchmen for servers, vehicles for laptops, film names for Cisco boxes.

Just don't suddenly become an ISP and run out of film names in a month.

My personal computers are named after machines from science fiction.. hactar, mother, colossus..

There's a big list of them - with some picture on my wiki http://popey.com/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ComputersInSciFi I'd be interested if anyone has any I have missed - oh, and it *is* a wiki, so feel free to add any.

My business computers are named after indian spices.. cumin, coriander, fennel..

I've added three: Deep Thought from the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Omnius & Erasmus from the "Butlerian Jihad" Dune prequels. If you want to get really obscure, a couple of other computers get mentioned at Deep Thought's commissioning, but I can't remember what their names were.

Hostnames

I find myself favoring names from Greek literature lately. I have two Linux boxes in use at the moment: Xerxes, a desktop/server; and Eumaeus, a laptop. I've also got an ancient iMac (chugging along with Mac OS X 10.4) called Purgatorio, from a naming scheme when I had two other computers on the same LAN: Inferno (WinMe) and Paradiso (TurboLinux).

Oh, I almost forgot: a wireless router called Charon.

A few of mine...

gemini - dual-celeron BP6 from 1999, still my main desktop, but it is feeling a bit slow these days (a bit... ABit... pun? you decide).

sully - just-assembled (still compiling Gent- oops! done!) AMD64 dual-core with 2GB ram. Case has blue trim and its a relative monster compared to my other systems.

newt - Corel Netwinder, trusty little ARM-based firewall since 1998 (I have a little program that plays a "donk" sound every time a packet hits it and gets dropped on the floor).
None of the Above
